READ 718 AFTER SCHOOL

Our core programs, READ 718 After School and READ 718 Remote, are designed for remediation for children in grades 3-8 who are reading below grade level. Upon registration, each child is given a reading assessment to determine their strengths and areas of weakness, and a 10-week individualized lesson plan is created to address the child’s needs. Children are then paired with a dedicated, trained volunteer and attend 2 sessions a week for a minimum of 10 weeks to work toward their reading goals.

We work specifically with children from low-income households who are reading below grade level. To be eligible for READ 718 After School, children must be in grades 3-8, come from a low-income household that receives government assistance like SNAP or Medicaid or earns 80% or less of the Area Median Income (AMI) of New York City, and be reading below grade level based on our reading assessment, parent/guardian intake questionnaire, and school report cards.

We ask for a $25 fee for our intake assessment. We offer a sliding scale for the 10-week cycle. Families choose to pay either $100, $65, or $25 total for the full 10 weeks. If a family is unable to pay, please register and make a note on the application. We strive to accommodate all families.
