How Are We Different?
Mission History What We Do How Are We Different? Who We Serve Curriculum Impact
READ 718 is different from other literacy programs in several ways:
1) We offer free or very low-cost one-to-one literacy instruction.
2) We serve students from low-income families in grades 3-8 (ages 8-14), an age bracket that is grossly underserved in literacy instruction.
3) We pair students one-to-one with trained volunteer tutors, allowing neighbors and community members to work together and develop meaningful relationships.
4) Our program is designed and run by literacy educators.
5) We work with students in our own Brooklyn spaces -- warm, inviting storefronts valued by parents, children, and volunteers for their cozy, accessible environments and their dedication to one thing: reading.
