FAQ

What are your programming options?

Our primary program in our After School Literacy Program: 3rd-8th grade students attend sessions twice a week. We also have our Saturday Reading Room for 1st-2nd graders. Both the After School and Saturday programs run during the school year only. Additionally, we have our Summer Reading Room for rising 3rd-8th graders, which runs in July only, and our READ Up and Fundations programs, which is for a group of students who need extra support with decoding.

Do I need to submit an application for every cycle?

No. Once you submit an application, you will stay on our waitlist until we contact you for a spot. If any personal information changes such as an email address or phone number, please email us at info@read718.org or contact us on the Contact page.

How much does the program cost?

Our programs are designed for low-income households that receive government assistance like SNAP or Medicaid or earn 80% or less of the Area Median Income (AMI) of New York City. Our After School Literacy Program is offered on a sliding scale of $25, $65, or $100 for the full 10-week cycle. Families choose what they want to pay. We also require an assessment fee of $25 for all new, incoming students.

Our Saturday Reading Room is offered for $50 for the full cycle.

Do I have to pay for an assessment for my student at the beginning of every cycle?

No. The first assessment for your child is $25 and the following assessments are given at no charge.

Do you offer adult literacy programs?

Unfortunately not--our programming is for children only at this time.
