READ 718’s services are needed now more than ever. This crisis is impacting everyone, but it is having a disproportionately serious impact on the kids we serve. The students we serve are 1) in the NYC public school system, 2) from low-income families, and 3) struggling with grade- level reading and writing. Any learning issues that our students face (dyslexia, ADHD, etc) will be exacerbated by school closure and the resulting classroom distance learning. All of this is contributing to a slide in academic learning in the population that we serve. This is a social and racial justice issue: the educational impact will disproportionately affect low-income children of color in New York City.
